Calif. court: Unlicensed law grads are exempt from wage rules

Law-school graduates who haven't passed the bar but perform legal work at a law firm don't have to be paid overtime or given benefits such as rest breaks, a California appeals court ruled on Wednesday, referencing a federal decision. Such graduates that work at firms are considered members of a "learned profession" and are therefore exempt from certain wage rules, the court found.
