Big public funds back away from reliance on Wall Street

Major public pension funds and sovereign-wealth funds are increasingly taking direct control of investments as they seek to eliminate fees paid to private equity funds and hedge funds. The Institutional Investors Roundtable, a group devoted to managing big funds' money more efficiently, drew representatives of 27 funds that invest public money to a recent meeting.
