Spas that tout their "green" practices are more likely to draw environmentally minded employees to their staff, say spa owners. It's one way of finding workers whose values and practices dovetail with those of the spas. Another: Eschew standard advertising for new employees and rely instead on word of mouth. "I love to seek friends of friends first," says Cynthea Hausman, owner of Cynthea Spa in Burlington, Vt. "It's taken time to cultivate the community in our spa, so whenever we have an opening, I go to my staff first to see whether they know of someone who might be a good fit."
