Study: FMRI scan data mirror spinal fluid biomarkers for Alzheimer's detection

U.S. researchers who used resting state functional MRI to assess patients with early-stage Alzheimer's disease said they were able to detect damage to brain networks at about the same time that changes in tau and amyloid beta levels occurred in spinal fluid. The finding suggests the scans might be as effective in detecting early stages of Alzheimer's as the chemical markers, researchers reported in JAMA Neurology.
