Do hedge funds fit in 401(k) plans?

The debate over whether alternative investments, notably hedge funds, belong in 401(k) plans continues to rage. Alternative investments certainly offer a way to better diversify portfolios with products that in theory are less correlated to the broad stock and bond markets. But the managers can be hard to research, and the lock-up periods can seem long to some 401(k) investors. As of now, there is no definitive answer.
