Report: Japan should provide more research opportunities for students

Japanese students given more research opportunities during their "comprehensive study" periods perform better on achievement tests, according to a recent report by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The report follows a decision in 2011 to reduce time for comprehensive study in favor of direct instruction.
