UN extends AU mission in Somalia

The UN has approved a six-month extension for the African Union force currently stationed in Somalia. The troops were installed in 2007 to replace Ethiopian troops, who helped the government to fight an Islamist rebel movement in 2007. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon promised logistical and technical support to bring the force up to UN standards.
