Calif. tribe suffers setback for online poker proposal

The leader of the California Senate deferred a vote on a bill to offer online poker in California until the next legislative session. The Morongo Band of Mission Indians drafted a five-page bill to allow a centralized poker Web site, but the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians -- one of the state's larger and more wealthy tribes -- opposes the bill. The California Tribal Business Alliance also opposes the bill because it would disrupt the state's tribal gambling compacts.
