Telecommuting could spread to unexpected fields

As virtual work spaces and communications technology advance, telecommuting might someday encompass most kinds of work. "The next major leap forward -- and it's coming -- will be when virtual working expands beyond knowledge workers to the kinds of jobs that historically always required physical presence," writes Johna Till Johnson, who notes that police officers, nurses and even factory workers may someday find their physical presence at work unnecessary.
