University of Alaska deploys fleet of drones for research

The University of Alaska-Fairbanks deploys unmanned aircraft to map wildfires, take a census of seals and monitor other projects. The university maintains a fleet of four ScanEagle drones, which contain GPS navigation and are piloted through remote control. The ScanEagle flies between 40 and 70 miles per hour and weighs about 40 pounds.
