Rhee, Ravitch debate how to close the achievement gap

Education historian Diane Ravitch and former Washington, D.C., Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee debated last week about the best way to close racial and ethnic achievement gaps. The discussion was organized by Harvard University's Henry Louis Gates Jr. Rhee said teacher accountability was the best way to improve student achievement, while Ravitch said teachers are being demoralized and scapegoated and that more support should be given to low-income students.
