PG&E exec on why Big Data is a "big deal"

With millions of smart meters operating across its footprint, Pacific Gas and Electric is confronting the challenge of turning the 3 terabytes of data it generates each month into an actionable asset, says Karen Austin, chief information officer. In a recent keynote address, Austin said PG&E is turning to Big Data solutions to offer "unprecedented insight" into its grid operations and to create a soon-to-be-released application aimed at customers who charge their electric vehicles at home.
