AMA urges CMS to fix shortcomings in Physician Compare website

CMS should address flaws in the Physician Compare website before posting information on how well group practices perform on quality measures, American Medical Association CEO James Madara wrote in a letter to the agency. The site's recently upgraded search function does not present results prioritized by specialty, even if the user searches for a specialist, potentially leading patients to assume that, for example, a family doctor is qualified to perform a face lift, Madara said. Moreover, the site often lists incorrect or outdated information about physicians, which can take up to six months to correct, Madara said.
