Food companies disagree on whole-grain label guidelines

The debate over what kind of requirements should exist when marketing and labeling whole-grain food products is still brewing. The FDA issued draft guidance regarding whole-grain labeling claims seven years ago, but there has been no finalized guidance decision. Recently, General Mills, which says fiber should not be a qualifier for statements about whole grain, asked the FDA to issue a statement, but Kellogg says only foods considered a good source of fiber should be labeled as whole grain.
