Gestational diabetes may raise risk of obstructive sleep apnea

The risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea was seven times higher among women with gestational diabetes than in pregnant women with normal glucose tolerance, according to a study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. The findings suggest that women with gestational diabetes should be assessed for sleep apnea while those already diagnosed with the sleep disorder should be watched for gestational diabetes, a researcher said.
