Peridynamics project aimed at predicting failures in aircraft, cars

The U.S. Defense Department is funding a study into the field of peridynamics, a type of mathematical modeling that should help in the prediction of materials failures with possible application in cars and aircraft. The $7.5 million project is part of a $67.5 million allocation to academic institutions for research under a Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative, or MURI, writes James Aldridge.
