Seed companies develop melons with an eye on longevity

Developers at seed companies including Sakata Seed America and Monsanto have been developing new melon breeds that have a longer shelf life while retaining flavor. "We do work for the growers and retailers, but our main idea is to keep the melon in the market for a long time and to satisfy what consumers demand, which is quality," said Sakata Seed's Lakhwinder Randhawa.
