Study: EHR tool shows promise in identifying kidney injuries in patients

A study in the journal Pediatrics found that an EHR-based trigger tool shows promise in automatically diagnosing high nephrotoxin exposure and acute kidney injury in hospitalized children. Researchers from Cincinnati Children's Hospital found the exposure rate discovered among participants rose from 7.6 admissions for every 1,000 patient days before the tool was adopted to 11.6 admissions per 1,000 patient days after the system was used, leading to an overall decrease in acute kidney injuries during the study.
