Unions challenge Detroit's bankruptcy

Public labor unions asked a federal judge to reject Detroit's bankruptcy-protection filing, saying it violates the U.S. and Michigan constitutions. Police and firefighter unions argue that the bankruptcy filing is illegal because Kevyn Orr, a state-appointed emergency manager, did not negotiate in good faith with creditors, as required by the bankruptcy code.
