US retailers begin implementation of Bangladesh factory plan

The group of 20 major US retailers that signed onto a Bangladesh factory safety plan in July met Tuesday in Chicago to announce additional signatories including Costco, name its board of directors and finalize safety standards. The group, dubbed the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety, named former Rep. Ellen O'Kane Tauscher, D-Calif., as its chairwoman. The pact signed by chains including Wal-Mart, Gap, Macy's and Target includes providing factories with $100 million in low-cost loans to make safety improvements.
