Agency to rewrite bond rules for offshore oil and gas companies

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management plans to revise decades-old bonding requirements for offshore oil and gas operations in an attempt to reflect changes in the industry and aging equipment, according to the agency's acting director. Companies are currently required to rely on sureties to back the decommissioning of offshore facilities.
