Youth music program reaches out to Chicago children

Rock for Kids, a Chicago nonprofit founded in 1988, offers free after-school music education to more than 800 disadvantaged students at 17 sites across the city. "Someone has to step in to make up for the cuts in arts education. Especially at the elementary-school level," said Andrew Bird, a Chicago musician and honorary board member of the program.
