Apps can motivate people to exercise, research shows

Research is showing creative applications can help motivate people to exercise, such as one developed for a Stanford University study that used a cartoon bird whose health thrived or waned depending on the user's physical activity. At George Washington University, researchers found people lost weight after creating and following digital avatars of themselves that were physically active.
