A quick project to introduce students to chemistry, each other

Middle-grades science teacher Marsha Ratzel shares in these two blog posts an assignment she gave in the first two days of class that combined digital research skills, a chemistry introduction and student icebreakers as part of one project. Students were directed to spell their names using elements of the periodic table and had to research -- either on smartphones or traditional media -- "fun" facts about each element for a poster they created.
