Radial-access PCI may reduce the need for transfusions

Department of Veterans Affairs facilities that handled a high volume of radial-access PCI cases were less likely to treat patients with blood transfusions than sites that used femoral access and low-volume sites, a study indicated. The results suggest that "routine use of radial PCI and wider application of radial PCI, both of which would likely lead to greater technical proficiency with the procedure, have the potential to improve safety outcomes among veterans undergoing PCI," researchers wrote in Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions.
