Study finds link between iron accumulation, Alzheimer's

A study in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease suggests iron accumulation may play a role in the development of Alzheimer's. U.S. researchers examined two regions in the brains of Alzheimer's patients, finding that iron levels were elevated in the hippocampus and are tied to tissue damage there, while there was no such increase detected in the thalamus. Damage in the hippocampus occurs early in disease progression.
