Umami Burger loses 1st round in trademark fight

A judge has denied California-based Umami Burger's request for a preliminary injunction to force Umami Mia Pizzeria in Austin, Texas, to change its name, saying "'umami' is a common word that cannot be monopolized." The decision came as part of the burger chain's trademark infringement case against the newly opened pizzeria.
