Flower-shaped, solar-powered sports arena to rise in Libya

The architectural firm Giancarlo Zema Design Group has released renderings for what will become the Desert Flower, the first multifunctional sports center in Libya. The 40,000-seat arena in Tripoli will be shaped like a cross-section of a flower and will be powered by 430,000 square feet of solar panels set on the aluminum panel roof. The building will use recycled materials and is set to be completed in 2017.
