Libertarian group: Terminally ill have the right to investigational meds

Arizona voters will decide in November if dying patients should have a right to take experimental drugs. The libertarian group Goldwater Institute's Victor Riches said people have the right to try to save their own lives. Concerns have been raised about the use of developmental drugs outside of clinical trials. "We have serious concerns with any approach to make investigational medicines available that seeks to bypass the oversight of the Food and Drug Administration and clinical trial process," said Sascha Haverfield, vice president of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, in an e-mail.
