Patient data breaches widespread in health care

Ponemon Institute researchers found that as of last week, 204 data breaches had occurred in the medical industry so far this year, affecting 2.1 million records. Nine in 10 U.S. hospitals and clinics had patient data exposed or stolen in 2012 and 2013, yet many organizations use outdated systems that do not receive regular security upgrades.
