Study links clarithromycin with higher cardiac mortality risk

Adults taking the antibiotic clarithromycin, but not roxithromycin, were 76% more likely to die from heart-related causes than penicillin V users, according to a large Danish study published in The BMJ. The absolute risk difference, however, was small with 37 additional cardiac deaths for 1 million courses of the antibiotic, researchers said.
