Tax Foundation of Hawaii: Higher taxes on air travel affect everyone

The federal government is increasing taxes on airline travel, writes Tom Yamachika, the president of the Tax Foundation of Hawaii. According to Airlines for America, 21% of an average ticket goes toward government fees and taxes. "The next time federal and state lawmakers want to ramp up taxes or fees on transportation, we need to have them realize it's not just a problem for the wealthy; it's a problem for the rest of us as well," he writes.
