Former Blue Ribbon school rated as not making sufficient progress

Principal Mary Hourdequin said she was "astounded" when the Connecticut Department of Education assessed King Philip Middle School as not making sufficient progress under NCLB standards. Although 80% of students had scored in the proficient range for math and 88% were proficient in reading, the poor performance of the special education subgroup on the math assessment earned the overall inadequate rating for the school.
