Delta CEO choice renews speculation about merger possibilities

Delta's new CEO, Richard Anderson, spent 14 years at Northwest, where he also served as CEO. Industry observers speculate that the two carriers might at some point consider a merger because their service routes complement each other. The airlines are already allied as part of SkyTeam. Anderson downplayed the possibility of closer ties, saying "you can get virtually all of the revenue benefits through an alliance relationship" without merging.
