Bridges span range of practical and aesthetic purposes

A bridge used to be valued for the practical benefit of spanning across a body of water. Today, bridges serve aesthetic purposes as well, with many bridges in Great Britain constructed to anchor new development. The Gateshead Millennium Bridge ushered in several other projects to the formerly depressed area since its 2001 opening.
