Hua Guofeng, Mao Zedong's chosen successor, died this week in Beijing. Hua ensured the end of the Cultural Revolution by sanctioning the arrest of the Gang of Four. His move opened the door to the economic reforms that ended China's isolation and turned it into the powerhouse it is today.
