Report: The moon is shrinking

Geological features on the surface of the moon indicate that it has been contracting, likely as a result of its core cooling off, researchers report. The nature of the land formations suggest that the shrinking has occurred within the past 1 billion years, and it may be ongoing. "The idea that you have very young faulting going on is very exciting, because it's somewhat unexpected," geophysicist Pat McGovern said.
