Cellular networks to serve as smart grid backbone for Duke Energy

According to a white paper from Duke Energy, the utility plans to use existing cellular networks as the digital backbone for its smart grid. David Masters, the company's manager of technology development and author of the white paper, writes that the utility intends to make digital grid technology investments of $1 billion.
