The Architecture Billings Index fell from 46.3 in May to 45.1 in June, which doesn't bode well for projects in the construction pipeline. Although 26 states added construction jobs between July 2010 and July 2011, it is more of a sideways movement in the industry. "When it comes to construction employment, for every state adding jobs there is another one shedding just as many or more," said Stephen Sandherr, CEO of the Associated General Contractors of America. "The fact that this industry is breaking even when it comes to construction employment is little comfort for many unemployed construction workers."
