Manufacturing holds key to jump-starting weak economy

The deterioration of U.S. manufacturing clout is overstated, as the country remains the world's largest manufacturing economy, producing 21% of all globally manufactured products, writes Kennametal CEO Carlos Mendosa. Manufacturing also provides 9% of all U.S. jobs. Legislators writing policies to grow the economy need to work with manufacturers to create laws that reduce burdensome taxes and regulations, as a strong manufacturing sector will put the country on sound economic footing for years to come, Mendosa argues.
