Chicago Fed index shows U.S. still flirting with contraction

The U.S. economy continued to teeter near contraction last month, according to the Chicago Federal Reserve National Activity Index. The July reading of minus 0.15 improved a bit on June's minus 0.23. Minus 0.70 indicates contraction.
