Integrated solar roof debuts at commercial building in Fla.

A 50-kilowatt, fully integrated solar roof has been installed on the SunTrust building in St. Petersburg, Fla. The solar energy system does not penetrate the building's roof because it is instead supported by urethane foam sprayed onto the roof. Lift tests were first done of the roof and stanchions to ensure that they could withstand winds reaching up to 200 mph, according to Scott McIntyre, CEO of Solar Energy Management, the company that installed the structure.
