LG eyes thinner "Quad" smartphone with record resolution

LG Display has built a thinner 5.5-inch smartphone with a 15% improvement in pixels-per-inch -- a 2560 x 1440 resolution -- than the current ppi leader, LG disclosed. LG, which tabbed the next-generation device as the first Quad HD AH-IPS LCD panel, said the resolution would eliminate distortion in displaying a PC version of a Web page. Also at LG, the South Korean company's mobile communications chief offered details on future products. Dimitar Valev said LG will introduce a new tablet as well as a 6-inch handset next year. LG will also give a smart watch another try, he added.
