Many famous companies got off to an odd start

A number of high-profile companies started with a totally different business model than they have today, writes Ethan Trex. For example, Wrigley, now known for its gum, began as a company that sold soap and baking powder. Likewise, Colgate didn't begin selling toothpaste until nearly 70 years after it was founded.
