As contract deadline nears, Philly teachers fight for better work rules

In Philadelphia, the School Reform Commission and the teachers union are negotiating daily in hopes of reaching a new contract before it expires Aug. 31. While the threat of a strike is slim, teachers say that the SRC's proposals to lengthen the workday and revamp the teacher assignment system are demoralizing.
