Travel firms broaden marketing appeal to atypical families

Single parents and same-sex couples traveling with their children are catching the attention of agents and travel firms who see a growing niche market. Some hotels are waiving the single supplement during certain times of the year, and cruise ships and tour operators now offer trips designed for gay couples with children or single parents. "The trips eliminate the feeling of any potential homophobia or potential discrimination," said Amy Errett, Chief Executive Officer of Olivia Cruises and Resorts, which serves the lesbian market.
