Study: Being moderately overweight can raise risk of early death

While the health impact of obesity has become a big concern, a new study reports that being just moderately overweight in middle age can slightly boost the risk of premature death. The study of AARP members found that those who were somewhat overweight had a 20% to 40% increased risk of dying prematurely and the findings counter other research suggesting that a little extra fat could in fact serve as a protective cushion.
