University is testing sign language transmission via cell phones

University of Washington researchers are testing videoconferencing technology that transmits American Sign Language over cell phones. The technology is being tested by deaf and hearing-impaired students, who made around 200 calls over nearly three weeks. A larger study will be conducted in the winter.
