Boosting certain enzymes may help treat type 2 diabetes

Patients with diabetes have deficiencies in Sirt3 enzymes, found in the mitochondria of cells, in their skeletal muscles, a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found. The researchers suggest that developing drugs to help boost Sirt3 levels may "potentially reverse at least some of the adverse effects of type 2 diabetes."
