Children choose technology over books, study finds

A British study that involved more than 18,000 children ages 8 to 17 found that text messages were the preferred form of reading material, followed by e-mail and social networking sites such as Facebook. The frequency of book reading correlated inversely with age, with those ages 14 to 16 more than 10 times as likely to avoid books altogether as children in primary education, researchers found.
